Tucked away in the peaceful countryside of Fremington, Devon, our luxury eco-retreat offers the perfect adults-only escape for up to four guests - ideal for couples or friends who want to slow down, reconnect with nature, and enjoy meaningful time together.
Designed with relaxation and reconnection in mind, the accommodation is entirely off-grid, with thoughtful touches like LED lighting, a sauna powered by our own renewable energy system, and a hydrotherapy pool filled with pure spring water from our private borehole.

We welcome one well-behaved dog (aged 12 months+), and nature lovers will find plenty to appreciate, from local deer and foxes to the dragonflies and birds that thrive around our quarter-acre wildlife lake and waterfall.

At Picketts Barton Spa, sustainability isn’t just a feature - it’s the foundation. Entirely off-grid, our retreat is powered by 32 solar panels, with a backup generator available if ever needed.
Our fresh water is drawn from a 50-foot-deep borehole and carefully filtered and UV-treated in our on-site plant room -affectionately known as the Chicken Shed. Heating is provided by efficient oil underfloor heating and a cosy wood burner in the kitchen-diner, while low-energy LED lighting is used throughout.
Our hydrotherapy pool is filled with naturally sourced fresh water, and our sauna is heated entirely by our self-generated electricity. For those arriving by EV, there’s a free electric car charging point on site, making your stay as green as it is comfortable.
We’ve worked hard to make sure your time with us supports the land around you. Our eco-conscious design includes a sewage treatment system that feeds clean grey water into the lake, along with natural rainwater runoff from the house and fields. The result is a thriving quarter-acre lake, complete with a waterfall to support fish, plant life, and visiting wildlife.
Native hedges, a wildflower meadow, bug hotels, bird and bat boxes help create a rich, biodiverse environment—welcoming deer, foxes, bats, and a chorus of birdsong. Whether you're soaking in the views or exploring the grounds, you’ll feel deeply connected to the natural rhythms of the countryside.

MEET THE OWNERS
our journey to creating picketts barton spa
We’ve lovingly owned this 4-acre agricultural smallholding and vegetable allotment for many years. The land originally featured a wooden barn, three concrete stables, and a paddock. Over time, we’ve grazed and raised a variety of animals here, including horses, pigs, sheep, ducks, and chickens.
While the livestock and poultry are no longer with us, we’re still visited regularly by roe deer and many species of birds—which we always enjoy seeing. Drawn by the peace and natural beauty of the area, we felt inspired to share this special place with others. That dream sparked a long journey: transforming the unused stables, barn, and old chicken shed into a stunning venue for luxurious short stays. Every detail of the build and its facilities has been thoughtfully designed with comfort, quality, and guest experience in mind.
Sustainability was central to our vision. We made every effort to ensure the project was environmentally responsible—sourcing materials and labour locally, and building a retreat that is entirely off-grid.
We also wanted to give back to nature. To enhance the site’s biodiversity, we created a quarter-acre lake, fed by rainwater runoff and treated greywater from the property. We’ve planted wildflower meadows, native hedgerows, and installed bird and bat boxes to encourage local wildlife to flourish.
Two and a half years later, we’re proud to open the doors to Picketts Barton Spa, our luxury countryside retreat—and we can’t wait to welcome guests to experience the peace, comfort, and charm of this unique haven.
